Today's Panchanga
Look up Tithi, Vara, Yoga, Karana, and Nakshatra for any date and location.
Panchanga (literally "five limbs") is the traditional Vedic calendar system used across India for thousands of years. It tracks five elements of time for any given day and location — each one carrying its own significance for daily life, rituals, and decision-making.
- Tithi (Lunar day) — The phase of the Moon. There are 30 tithis in a lunar month. Certain tithis are considered auspicious for weddings, business, or travel — others are best for rest and reflection.
- Vara (Weekday) — Each day is ruled by a planet — Sunday by the Sun, Monday by the Moon, Tuesday by Mars, and so on. The ruling planet colours the energy of the day.
- Yoga (Sun-Moon combination) — One of 27 yogas formed by the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. Some yogas are favourable for starting new things, others signal caution.
- Karana (Half-tithi) — Each tithi is split into two karanas. Karanas influence the style and pace of action — some favour bold moves, others reward patience.
- Nakshatra (Lunar mansion) — The constellation the Moon occupies. There are 27 nakshatras, each with a distinct character. Your birth nakshatra is one of the most personal elements of your chart.
People consult the panchanga to choose auspicious dates for important events — weddings, housewarming ceremonies, starting a business, travel, or even haircuts. It is also used daily by practitioners to understand the quality of each day and plan accordingly. Think of it as a weather forecast for cosmic energy.
